Hydrocarbon Development Institute of Pakistan (HDIP) is an autonomous body of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Resources established in 1975 under a Resolution of Federal Government. The organization has a pioneering role in oil and natural gas resources exploitation and usage. Its Head Office is in Islamabad with laboratories/ testing centers in Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta and Multan.
The primary objectives of HDIP are research and development to facilitate exploration of hydrocarbons, recommend measures for controlling environmental pollution, control and standardization of hydrocarbon products, to provide consultancy, advisory and laboratory services to the public and private sector, to conduct functions of testing, inspection, equipment approval, transfer of technology, refuelling and vehicle conversions for use of CNG in automobiles;
